Revelation 3: 1 - 6

In each of the seven letters in Revelation 2-3, Christ emphasizes one essential quality that every local church should possess. Christ's people must be known for their love, their willingness to suffer for his sake, their loyalty to the truth of the gospel, the holiness of their conduct, and also the reality of their faith. We may have a good reputation with others but what really matters is what Christ thinks about us. Throughout his ministry, Jesus emphasized the heart whereas others focused on appearances. In the letter to Sardis, Jesus wages war on religious hypocrisy among his people. "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."
